HEAL Palestine Education Programs
What is our
Education Pillar

Education is a critical foundation of any society, yet in Gaza, the entire education system has been decimated. Universities have been destroyed, over two-thirds of schools have been reduced to rubble, and the remaining facilities are being used as shelters for displaced families. Formal education in UNRWA and government schools has ceased for over a year. This collapse threatens to leave a lasting void in the lives of Gaza’s children and the future rebuilding of a civil society.

Our Education Pillar at Glance
HEAL’s Education Pillar ensures access to meaningful, high-quality learning for displaced and war-affected Palestinians. Through partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations, we bridge learning gaps, offer scholarships, and build the skills that lead to stability, empowerment, and lasting recovery in Gaza and beyond.
The programs and projects implemented by HEAL Palestine’s Education Pillar is supported by a team of Palestinian experts in the field of education, both inside of Gaza and in the diaspora. They play an instrumental advisory role in ensuring that our limited resources are employed in the most effective and impactful way possible to help support students and institutions serving Gaza’s youth.

Hope of Pyramids Initiative
Egypt
The Hope of Pyramids Initiative is a community-driven education and wellbeing program supporting displaced Palestinian children from Gaza living in Egypt. Launched in response to the post–October 2023 displacement crisis, the program provides safe, centre-based learning spaces where children can regain structure, routine, and emotional stability. Through trauma-informed education, play, arts, and psychosocial support, the initiative prioritizes children’s wellbeing first, while maintaining continuity with the Palestinian curriculum.
The program aims to restore a sense of normalcy, strengthen emotional resilience, and foster social connectedness among trauma-affected children and their families. In its initial pilot phase, Hope of Pyramids reached approximately 800-1000 students through a six-week summer school, exceeding expectations in attendance, engagement, and community trust. The model has since expanded into multiple centres across Cairo, serving thousands of children while developing a documented, scalable framework that can be replicated in other crisis-affected contexts, including Gaza in the future.
Hope of Pyramids is active and scaling. Following the successful pilot in mid-2024, the program expanded into seven education and wellbeing centres across Cairo, serving children in Grades 1 to 11 with multidisciplinary teams of teachers, counsellors, and facilitators. Additional expansion opportunities are being explored beyond Cairo, alongside investments in safeguarding, monitoring and evaluation, health screenings, and staff training to strengthen quality, sustainability, and long-term impact.

Gaza & Egypt
The HEAL Writers Program is a structured literary initiative supporting Palestinian youth and emerging writers through guided writing workshops that lead from creative expression to publication. Rather than beginning with selective mentorship, the program emphasizes skill-building, completion, and inclusive participation, creating a clear and ethical pathway from writing to publication.
The program aims to preserve Palestinian voices, stories, and cultural context while equipping young writers with the tools to produce publishable literary work. Participants progress through a phased process that includes story development, editorial review, ethical literary translation, and illustration, culminating in a collective anthology. By prioritizing original language, author ownership, and cultural integrity, the program creates a sustainable pipeline that elevates Palestinian narratives for both local and global audiences.
The HEAL Writers Program is in active development, with its phased structure finalized and preparation underway to launch writing workshops for eligible participants. HEALlegacy University Program
Egypt
The HEALegacy Scholarship – Undergraduate Phase is a targeted university support initiative designed to ensure uninterrupted access to higher education for six displaced Palestinian students currently residing in Egypt. Building on the success of the HEALegacy Tawjihi Program, this phase removes remaining financial barriers preventing enrollment or continuation at Egyptian public universities.
The program focuses on covering official university costs required by the Egyptian higher education system, including registration, seat reservation, tuition, and medical insurance. By securing these requirements, HEAL ensures that students can pursue their academic pathways without disruption, financial stress, or dependency on emergency aid.
Following displacement from Gaza, many Palestinian students successfully completed secondary education but face significant financial barriers to entering or continuing university studies in Egypt. Despite academic eligibility and formal admission pathways, costs associated with enrollment and tuition remain prohibitive.
The HEALegacy Scholarship has already demonstrated its effectiveness in supporting Palestinian students at the Tawjihi level. This Undergraduate Phase extends that impact by ensuring students can transition into higher education or continue their studies without interruption, preserving both academic momentum and long-term opportunity.
The HEALegacy Scholarship – Undergraduate Phase is actively underway, with eligible students identified and admission pathways confirmed through Egyptian public universities. Documentation preparation and registration requirements have been reviewed, and cost structures for both new enrollees and continuing students have been finalized in accordance with official university procedures. The program is pending full funding to complete seat reservations, tuition payments, and medical insurance, enabling all six students to enroll or continue their studies without interruption.

HEAL School
Gaza
The HEAL Palestine School in Gaza is a fully accredited, in-person education initiative established in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE–Ramallah). The school will operate under national educational standards and issue official report cards, with HEAL assuming full responsibility for funding, staffing, operations, and management, while the MoE provides educational oversight, accreditation, and compliance. The model prioritizes safe learning environments, psychosocial support, and academic continuity for children affected by displacement and prolonged learning disruption.
The school aims to restore access to structured, high-quality education in a high-need area while addressing significant learning loss among displaced and vulnerable children. Through a two-shift operating model, the school will maximize limited space to serve up to 2,000 students weekly with MoE-aligned instruction. In addition to improving academic stability and retention, the program creates employment opportunities for Gaza-based educators and establishes a scalable model for future HEAL–MoE educational collaborations.
The HEAL Palestine School in Gaza is in the advanced planning stage, with the implementation framework, operating model, staffing structure, and budget finalized. Coordination with the Ministry of Education (MoE–Ramallah) is underway to formalize accreditation, oversight, and compliance arrangements. Upon signing the agreement, HEAL is prepared to immediately initiate construction, recruitment, and enrollment activities, with the school projected to open within seven weeks under a two-shift operational model serving up to 2,000 students weekly, subject to funding and on-ground conditions.

Back to School Program
Gaza
The HEAL Back to School Program is a foundational education initiative designed to address severe learning loss among young children in Gaza who have missed multiple years of formal schooling. In response to prolonged educational disruption affecting children aged 6 to 10, the program provides structured, in-person instruction focused on core skills in Arabic, Mathematics, and English. Through small class sizes and a level-based learning approach, the center creates a safe, supportive environment that reintroduces academic routines while integrating trauma-informed care.
The program aims to rebuild essential literacy and numeracy skills, restore learning habits, and prepare children for successful reintegration into formal education systems once access is restored. By serving up to 400 students across multiple shifts, the Learning Center prioritizes personalized attention and consistent follow-up. Expected outcomes include measurable improvements in reading, writing, and basic mathematics for at least 70 percent of participants, along with increased confidence, emotional resilience, and readiness to return to school.
The HEAL Learning Center is in the active implementation phase, with program design, staffing plans, schedules, and monitoring frameworks finalized. Student selection and level-based assessments are underway through field surveys, and teaching staff are being prepared through specialized training in trauma-informed education and emergency instruction methodologies. Educational Supplies for TLSs
Gaza
The Temporary Learning Center Support initiative provides essential educational supplies to students attending Temporary Learning Spaces (TLSs) across Gaza, where access to basic learning materials remains severely limited. Rising costs and prolonged economic hardship have left many families unable to afford notebooks, writing tools, calculators, and classroom essentials. Through this program, HEAL Palestine supplies age-appropriate learning kits and classroom materials directly to TLSs, ensuring students have the tools needed to participate meaningfully in education.
The program aims to support at least 2,000 students by reducing financial pressure on families and improving learning conditions within underserved TLSs. By equipping students with essential supplies, the initiative promotes attendance, engagement, and continuity of learning in unstable environments. At the school level, the provision of classroom essentials strengthens teachers’ ability to deliver lessons and helps stabilize fragile learning settings, reinforcing HEAL Palestine’s broader educational response across Gaza.
The Temporary Learning Center Support program is in the assessment and rollout phase. Field visits and coordination with TLS administrators are underway to finalize student databases, identify grade-level needs, and prioritize schools in accessible areas. Procurement planning and phased distribution are being prepared to accommodate market volatility and access constraints. Based on recent field findings, the education team is also evaluating complementary support options for volunteer teachers, subject to resource availability and program scope.
