Adam was only four years old when a bombing in Gaza changed his life forever. He lost his leg, and he lost his parents, brother, and sister. In a single moment, he became both an amputee and an orphan.

Many people around the world came to know Adam through HEAL Palestine’s Global Healing Program, following his recovery as he traveled from Gaza to the United States for specialized medical care that was not available at home.

Adam first arrived in the U.S. with severe injuries, requiring advanced treatment, rehabilitation, and prosthetic care. Over time, supporters watched him take important milestones: leaving the hospital, receiving a prosthetic leg, learning to walk again, and slowly returning to activities that allowed him to be a child.

After completing treatment in the United States, Adam continued his recovery in Egypt under HEAL Palestine’s care, where his rehabilitation, follow-up support, and adaptation to life with a prosthetic continued. Like many children in the program, his journey extended across countries and over many months, reflecting the long-term nature of healing after severe trauma and injury.

Today, Adam has reached another milestone.

He has returned to Gaza, becoming one of the first children supported through HEAL Palestine’s Global Healing Program to complete this stage of the journey and go back home.

Adam is now living with his grandmother in a tent. His return comes with mixed emotions. Conditions in Gaza remain difficult, and he currently lives in a tent. Yet Gaza is also where his family is buried, where his memories were formed, and where his roots remain.

For children affected by war, healing is not always defined by where they receive treatment. Sometimes it is also about returning to familiar places, reconnecting with community, and rebuilding life close to home.

Adam’s story reflects the broader vision of the Global Healing Program: not only providing emergency treatment abroad, but supporting children through rehabilitation, continued care, and, whenever possible, helping them return with greater strength, mobility, and support.

At just a few years old, Adam has already lived through profound loss, crossed borders for care, learned to walk again, and returned home. His journey is one of survival, adaptation, and resilience.

HEAL Palestine will continue to follow and support children like Adam through every stage of recovery, whether in the United States, Egypt, Gaza, or new treatment pathways around the world.

For many who have followed Adam’s story from the beginning, this moment is not the end of his healing journey. It is the beginning of a new chapter. One where, with continued support, he can grow not only into recovery, but into the future leader his community deserves.
