Certificate Release Grant Helps Mohammed Reclaim His Future After Losing His Family in Gaza
Mohammed graduated from Al-Aqsa University with a 92.9 GPA. His graduation ceremony was scheduled for October 7, 2023, the same day the war began.
Instead of celebrating the achievement he had worked toward for years, Mohammed’s life was shattered. He lost his entire family and became the sole survivor.
In the months that followed, Mohammed tried to move forward and find work. But without his official bachelor’s certificate, every job opportunity was closed to him. Employers rejected him because he could not provide the document proving his graduation, even though he had completed his studies with excellence.
Through HEAL Palestine’s Certificate Release Grant, in partnership with Reach Education Fund, Mohammed was able to take a critical step toward reclaiming his future.
This grant helps remove a practical but devastating barrier for graduates in Gaza whose lives have been disrupted by war, displacement, and financial hardship. For students like Mohammed, a withheld certificate can mean the difference between unemployment and the ability to apply for work, continue their education, or rebuild a life with dignity.
Mohammed’s story reflects the deeper purpose of HEAL Palestine’s Education Pillar. Education support is not only about classrooms and school supplies. It is also about helping young Palestinians preserve the value of what they have already achieved and ensuring that war does not erase their hard work, qualifications, or future opportunities.
After losing his family, his home, and the life he knew, Mohammed’s certificate represents more than a document. It represents recognition, possibility, and a path forward.
