Muath, 14, lost his leg in a bombing in Gaza. Today, he is beginning a new phase of recovery in Mexico City through HEAL Palestine’s Global Healing Program.

This week, Muath attended his first medical evaluation at MedHaus, marking the start of his rehabilitation journey in Mexico. His care plan is now underway, including assessments, physical rehabilitation, and prosthetic fitting preparation, all essential steps toward restoring mobility and independence.

For children recovering from limb loss, access to specialized rehabilitation and prosthetic care is critical. Recovery extends far beyond initial treatment, requiring months, and often years, of follow-up care, therapy, and adjustments as children grow and adapt.

Muath’s arrival in Mexico also represents an important milestone for the Global Healing Program itself. Following restrictions affecting medical travel pathways for Palestinian patients to the United States, HEAL Palestine has expanded the program to Mexico, creating new opportunities for injured children to access advanced care abroad.

The Global Healing Program operates on a long-term model, supporting children through surgery, rehabilitation, housing, psychosocial care, education, and continued recovery. Many children continue their healing journeys across the United States and Egypt, while new pathways like Mexico help ensure treatment remains accessible for future patients.

Muath’s evaluation this week is only the beginning. His rehabilitation and prosthetic fitting process will continue over time, supported by medical teams and HEAL Palestine as he works toward walking again.
