Just two days after Tawjihi results were announced, HEAL Palestine gathered in Khan Younis to celebrate 120 graduates from HEAL Palestine School and the families of our employees.
These students sat their exams while living through war, displacement, and unimaginable loss. They studied in tents and shelters, without stable electricity, without reliable internet, and in many cases without the homes, schools, or family members they had at the start of their studies.
They passed anyway.
The Tawjihi is the exam that determines a Palestinian student’s path to university, and it is demanding under ordinary conditions. Sitting it under these ones required a kind of persistence that is difficult to describe to anyone who has not lived it. Every student at this celebration made a decision, repeatedly, over months, to keep preparing for a future that the circumstances around them offered no guarantee of.
Each graduate received a $100 gift to support their transition to university, a practical step toward the next stage of their education at a moment when families have almost nothing left to put toward it.
Holding the celebration two days after results were announced mattered. These students earned a moment of recognition, and they deserved it without delay.
This celebration is part of HEAL Palestine’s Education Pillar and its commitment to carrying Palestinian students through their education and into the futures they are working toward.
