One day after undergoing neurosurgery in Mexico City, Mira was already walking through the hospital hallway with her nurses, sitting beside her mother, and playing with toy cups and kitchen utensils.

For many children, pretending to cook or bake is an ordinary part of play. For Mira, it is a meaningful sign of recovery after a serious head injury and major surgery.

Mira was brought to Mexico through HEAL Palestine’s Global Healing Program after sustaining a severe head injury in Gaza. Her surgery is one step in a longer treatment and rehabilitation journey that will require continued medical follow-up, therapy, and family support.

The video captures Mira doing what every child should be able to do: playing, imagining, speaking, and interacting with the people around her. After everything she has endured, these small moments carry deep meaning. They show that healing is not only measured by surgery, scans, or medical reports, but also by the return of childhood itself.

Mira is one of the first children receiving care through HEAL Palestine’s expanded Global Healing pathway in Mexico, as the program continues to create new treatment options for children who cannot access specialized care in Gaza.

Her recovery is still ongoing, and more care remains ahead. But one day after surgery, Mira’s steps, playfulness, and curiosity offer a powerful reminder of what this work is for.
