Muath, 15, Walked Out of Mexico City on a New Leg. Now Comes the Next Chapter

Muath, lost his leg in a bombing in Gaza. Through HEAL Palestine’s Global HEALing Program, he traveled to Mexico City with his mother and baby sister for treatment at OP Bionik, where he was fitted with a new leg.
“I want to thank all of the kind people in Mexico for helping me to walk again,” Muath said.
That was made possible by the team at OP Bionik and a generous community in Mexico City who welcomed Muath and his family from day one.
Muath is now on his way back to Egypt, where the next phase of his care begins. A prosthetic fitting is the start of a process, not the end of one. Learning to walk again takes months of physical therapy, gait training, and adjustments, and for a fifteen-year-old still growing, it means ongoing fittings and follow-up for years to come. HEAL Palestine will continue supporting Muath through that work in Egypt, alongside his education and the care his family needs while they wait.
The goal throughout is the same one the program was built around: to get Muath home. Every stage, from Mexico City to Cairo, is structured to prepare him to return to Gaza on his own two feet, with his schooling intact and his recovery behind him rather than ahead of him.
Muath will keep going until he can return home to his family in Gaza. HEAL Palestine will be with him the whole way.
